Living in London, she booked the midnight train back to the city, however due to the post-show chaos, she missed her train and had to resort to a five-hour overnight bus journey-after all, she had a flight to make the next day for Louis Tomlinson’s show in the US. During Harry Styles' last leg of Love on Tour 2023, Alison and I met in Coventry, UK to attend the second night of his show there. The day after the show she flew back home on a 4-hour flight to Jordan, a 12-hour flight to New York, and then a 5-hour flight to Arizona. Her longest and most hectic journey was coming back from Louis Tomlinson’s Dubai concert in 2022. At the time, her classes were only in-person on Wednesdays, which gave her the rest of the days to work and travel. Once she started her masters, Romero often attended one-off shows, such as Taylor Swift's opening night in Arizona, which she flew back to the US for over a weekend. She describes the experience as “surreal…unusual to see two members of One Direction in the same week when I used to see them performing on the same day.” She flew to London from Arizona just for that day and hopped back on a flight the next day to attend Harry Styles’ first Love on Tour show in Las Vegas. The first show Alison attended post COVID was Louis Tomlinson’s Away from Home Festival in London, 2021. In 2021, when Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson began their tours, she decided to take the year off and follow them on tour before starting grad school in the fall of 2022. Today, Romero says “the timing of everything worked in my favour.” She graduated from Stanford University in 2019, right when COVID struck, which gave her the time to work full-time jobs for the next two years. Tackling and splitting the process with friends can help you get tickets to multiple shows rather than just one. Don’t go for resale websites, as they are often very overpriced, however there are some fan resale sites that can sell tickets for face value such as Twickets.Ĥ. Pay via PayPal goods and services and don’t fall for scammers!ģ. “I think having a network of fandom friends is really cool because I’ll post that I am looking for a specific ticket and someone might know someone who's selling one.” Just make sure you buy them from reputable people (stan accounts) to be safe, and always ask for proof via a screen recording beforehand. Check Twitter as most of the fandoms resell tickets for face value. Always check multiple sales sites and go through all of the presales and general sales on Ticketmaster.Ģ. It’s so crazy to me that ever since I was 13 I wanted to do that, and now I’m actually doing it.”ġ. “I love big cities and I have always wanted to live and study in London. It was a moment she had been waiting for since the day she discovered One Direction. She went on to study at Stanford University, where she majored in psychology and human biology, and then moved to London to complete her masters in criminology, gender, and sexuality at the University of Greenwich. Romero’s love for pop music only grew stronger as she went from a teen to an adult, despite added responsibilities. Her first ever merchandise was a purple shirt that said ‘I love 1D’, perhaps her most treasured possession to this day. Since the US didn’t have many stores that sold One Direction merchandise at the time, she brought back home a lot. During the summer of 2012, she was able to visit London for the first time on a Girl Scouts trip. I had the Union Jack, posters of telephone booths, and I even had a London-themed birthday party,” says Romero. Even before One Direction, I was so involved in British culture through the YouTubers I watched. “When I discovered One Direction in 2012, I knew that I wanted to be in the UK. She “knew from the very first listen that this was it, this was going to be the rest of (her) life.” Alison attended her first One Direction concert on 16 September, 2014 in Arizona, where a particular band member with a striped t-shirt-Louis Tomlinson-instantly became her favourite. With one click she bought the entire album, and not long after that she signed up for their mailing list. She remembers ‘the exact day’ she saw the first advert for One Direction on iTunes-March 24, 2012. Romero pays for her own concert tickets, accommodation, and flights, at one point working four jobs to support her passion, all while graduating from Stanford and saving up $50,000 (Rs41,33,672) for grad school. We have verified that by the end of this year she would have been to over a grand total of 100 shows across 67 cities and 18 countries for Louis Tomlinson 35 shows across 20 cities and 4 countries for Harry Styles and by the end of the Eras Tour, 17 shows across 8 cities and 4 countries for Taylor Swift. Imagine being in the audience of an arena trying to get the best view of your favourite artist, to suddenly becoming the person that they are trying to spot at every show-that’s Alison Romero, age 25.
